Sergeant at Arms

The Sergeant at Arms of each legislative chamber has the following duties:

  1. Attend the House/Senate during all sessions, preserve order, and perform other duties as s/he assigned by the Speaker/President;
  2. Be familiar with joint rules (section 10-120 in particular) applying to the decorum of the chambers and privileges of members.
  3. Assist the Secretary or Clerk of their respective chambers if needed.
  4. See that no person is admitted to the House/Senate Chamber during its session other than its members, and pages except as directed by the Speaker/President or as otherwise directed in the Rules; (i.e do not allow lobbyists or members of the other chamber onto the floor during sessions)
  5. Announce and act as Official Escort to all official messengers or special guests to the Chambers. (Example: Governor, Adult officials, etc.) House and Senate Sgts. share duty to escort special guests and officers during joint sessions.
  6. Have general supervision over all pages, keeping track of their attendance and proper performance of their duties.

Chaplain

The Chaplain of the Youth Legislature has the following duties:

  1. Prepare non-Sectarian inspirational or devotional messages for designated occasions:
    1. Opening Joint Session invocation.
    2. Opening devotional message for Senate and House floor sessions. (One per day)
    3. Invocation at the Governor's Banquet. (Sit at head officer's table during Banquet.)
    4. Benediction at Closing Joint Session
  2. Assist the Secretary or Clerk of their respective chambers if needed.
  3. Assist the Sergeant at Arms and Presiding officers if needed.
