KUDOS TO THREE FORKS
The Three Forks Trail is a fantastic example of a well-designed, and popular community
facility. Mayor Townsend and the Three Forks community deserve plenty of praise for leading the way in Gallatin Valley. As
you drive I-90 sometime, glance over to the south and you'll see what this type of facility can do for community residents.
SPEED CALMING AROUND SCHOOLS
Rich McClaine with the Bozeman Police Department
has been working through the school district to secure grant dollars for speed control signs to be placed in school areas
where speed is a problem. These are the signs that display a driver's speed. The signs have been proven to be very effective
(and cost effective) in speed control.
WHAT IS A WELL DESIGNED ROAD?
Drive,
bike or walk along the new stretch of West Babcock in Bozeman. This is a great example of a multi-functional road. It is pedestrian
friendly. It has narrow driving lanes to control speeds. It has a middle turning lane to increase it's carrying capacity.
And, it has well defined lanes, and crossings, for all users. The City of Bozeman deserves a lot of credit for making the
size and scale of the road appropriate for the adjoining neighborhoods. The interesting thing is this road has a carrying
capacity well above the current usage, but it doesn't feel that way because it is pedestrian friendly. Well done Bozeman!
COLLEGE STREET TRAIL
Sara Folger, the CTEP coordinator for the City of
Bozeman, has been putting all the pieces of this project together. One of the pieces, is the engineering and design of the
trail, which MSU professor, Anders Larsson, and his engineering students have been working on to possibly save the City money
in design and engineering fees. The completed trail will extend from South 11th along College and Huffine to Fergeson.
PROST PLAN
The City of Bozeman is currently preparing a new Parks, Recreation,
Open Space and Trails (PROST) Plan. One important component of this document is a trail plan for the Bozeman area. The City
of Bozeman, GVLT and the City Recreation and Parks Advisory Board have done a great job initiating and coordinating this long-term
plan. The PROST Plan, including the proposed trail plan, will be available for public review and comment by the end of the
year. Jody Sanford, with the City of Bozeman, is heading up this effort.
