One of the biggest puzzles surrounding Americana music is simply defining the term. That is not an easy proposition. The music, or least the radio stations playing the music, typically incorporates country, bluegrass, folk and blues.
-Country Standard Time

Americana music is much more than America.  It's older--it goes back to the oldest folk music of the U.K. and Europe, to Celtic tunes brought to Appalachia by Scots-Irish fiddlers, and old Church songs we all grew up on.  It's acoustic and alternative, alt.country, bluegrass, No Depression music that hits you in the gut and in the mind's eye.

Americana is murder ballads and gospel spirtuals, songs of despair and of hope.  Americana celebrates the Light, and shines a Light on the Darkness of mankind.  It looks back to yesterday to understand the morrow.

I've published several CD reviews on Roots Music Report. Thinking about doing more reviews.

You can browse one of my old KRFC playlists here.  Good stuff, eh?

Just remember, life's too short to drink bad beer--and way too short not to listen to good music.
